It’s a New Year with new goals, new lists, new ToDo items, and a whole new land of overwhelm! Am I right?

If you are staring at a list of things that didn’t get done in 2017 that you plan on dragging with you into 2018, you need to stop right there and read this…

Many of us are already drowning in overwhelm.

We live in a world of notifications, lists, agenda items, and tasks competing for our attention. Do this. Do that. Look here! Don’t forget. Remember to…

We are swimming in sea of a constant stress.

By the time we go to bed at night, instead of feeling like a job well done, most of us are thinking about what we didn’t do during the day and how we’re going to have to play catch up tomorrow.  The list keeps growing. That’s where we have to commit to making this year different!

There’s no way my 2017 list of undone items is coming with me into 2018!  I’m putting a stop to this madness right here!

There are only so many hours in the day, which is why it’s more important than ever — crucial, really — to simplify – or “Zimplify” as we call it here.

I believe one of the absolute best things you can do for your sanity is to whittle down your action items. Besides the things you have to do (pick up kids, make dinner, etc), commit to 3 action items every day. That’s it!

So, instead of that overgrown list of 10-15 things, each with 5 subheadings and additional bullet points that you’ve been writing yourself for years, and only crossing off 3 or 4 items…you know the one!  Write down 3 things. Yep, just 3.

Sure, you might end up getting more than that done. But if you allow yourself to be proud of knocking out 3 things and treat everything else as icing on the cake, your life will start to feel a lot more manageable.

Here’s the thing: having a long to-do list isn’t helpful. When you have a huge list of things to do, you’re going to naturally look for the quick wins. Instead of working on your most important items, you’ll gravitate towards the short, trivial items so you can have the satisfaction of crossing something off your list.

Or how about what I used to do, which was write things on my list that were already done – just to cross them off!  Oh tired ones, I can hear you laughing right now.  I know I am not alone in this incessant crossing off items!

But guess what? Those days are over. That all changes today.

When you focus on your most important 3 things per day, you’ll be thinking, “If I can only do 3 things, they better be important.” And with that mindset, you’ll zero in on tasks that HAVE TO be done, will push you out of your comfort zone, will connect you to that important thing you need to do or person you need to talk to today, or whatever is most important for you.

Doing 3 things from a list of 3 things is way better than doing NO things from a list of 15 because you’re overwhelmed. Can I get an, “Amen”?

If you’re ready, today is as good a day as any to start your new Do 3 things DAILY lifestyle!

So let’s do this…for the next 31 days, commit to Do 3 Things DAILY, so we can all get more done!  Who’s ready?
